Project Description

F.O. Lindström’s time as a city architect in Umeå did not last long. He felt thwarted and rarely appreciated for his ambitious work. After a few bitter years, he left the city. At the turn of the century, he became involved in architectural projects in Stockholm, in particular with Riksbanken (the Swedish Central Bank) and Telegrafverket (Swedish Telegraph) as clients. In that capacity he designed one additional structure in Umeå: a building housing the Central Bank and postal and telegraph offices that was inspired by the Florentine early-Renaissance style.
The facade material is red brick with decorative elements of light grey natural stone. Both street facades have been executed as “main facades” with projecting central sections topped with decorative rows of small brick arches. Look up and behold.
